"Coach
Jon was amazing and extremely patient. He help me physically and mentally
prepare myself for the task ahead. I gave him the rights to talk to me
like family and felt I could talk to him that way also.
The
goal I set was 13 hrs for my first full IRONMAN, I finished in 13:07. I
would’ve finished under 13 hrs but made a mistake of forgetting my nutrition
bag and decided to go back for it...they had move it already so I lost about 7
mins in T-2 by going back.
The
work I did before the other events, with his coaching, set me up to be able to
finish the full with plenty of confidence and strength.
If
you are looking for a coach to DIRECT you and you’re coachable, he’s the guy
for you.
I
will use him for Oceanside and the next full I am planning.
Defiantly
worth the money to have someone who is a Triathlete and more knowledgeable
giving you the advice to finish strong."

In a nutshell,
Jon is an amazing coach. I work in a triathlon shop, so I see a lot of
triathletes on a daily basis to know what works and what doesn’t work.
For the past year, I have been using Jon as my coach, and in that time I have
been able to achieve my personal record (PR) time of 5:34 in the half Ironman
70.3 distance and finally realize my life dream of the full Ironman 140.6
distance. I have been participating in triathlons for the past six years,
but only recently utilized the skills of a coach to push past the limits I
could reach on my own. Completing a full ironman distance race has been a
dream of mine since I was a teenager watching television coverage of the World
Champion Ironman in Kona. An achievement of this level seemed such an
impossible and a far-off dream, one that I never imagined I would
realize. This past year, I finally completed my first full Ironman race
and not only did I crush my expectations, but Jon’s expert coaching allowed me
to easily and confidently complete the race of my dreams with a time of
13:23. The training was tough, but Jon is engaging, motivating, and leads
by example with his own results. Not only is he able to provide
customized coaching and a wealth of knowledge, but he is also a really
likeable, down-to-earth guy, which can be hard to find in the triathlete
world. I am proud to call Jon not just my coach, but also my
friend. I feel fortunate to have met him and the other Area 3 Endurance
athletes, as it has truly been a life-changing experience for me. Jon has
been able to create a team of athletes that have gotten better, faster, and
have been placing at the top of the team rankings for every race. I
continue to use him for my future ironman races because his guidance has allowed
me to continuously improve and really enjoy the experience. If I’m going
to be putting as much money, time, and effort into these races as I have, then
I want to perform at my absolute best.

I never thought
about using a coach until I started hearing my husband rave about his coach
Jon. Although I’ve been running half marathon races for the past eight
years, I hadn’t gotten much faster than my very first race time of 2:33.
A couple months before the Long Beach half marathon and 20-mile bike tour last
year, I had Jon put a training plan together for me. I had never rode my
bike as far as 20 miles, let alone try to run 13.1 miles afterwards, so this
race felt like a big stretch for me. With Jon’s coaching and personalized
training plan, I felt strong on the bike and was able to run my second fastest
half marathon of 2:21 (out of over 35 other half marathons run without riding a
bike before). Not only that, but I felt really good both during and after
the race. I would definitely recommend Jon if you’re looking for a coach
to push you past your limits and achieve real results!

"Upon toeing the line at Ironman 140.6 there are only 2 intents burying itself in one’s mind . And that is to "Compete or Complete". On Saturday, July 30, I toed that line with only the intent to "complete" Full Vineman. I finished....AND I did it with a celebratory high-fives with spectators in the finishing chute and wide eyes in disbelief that I finished well under my desired high-ceiling time of 14 hours; 13:04 to be exact! I completed it with so much left in my reserve tank, I was left marveling, “How did this day turn out so pleasant for me?” Of course, I did not do this by myself. Over 6 months of training, there were many pieces to the puzzle that were required to put everything together for the big day. Saving the best piece for last was coach Jon Yance. My biggest, sincere THANK YOU goes out to Jon for physically and mentally preparing me for my first Ironman. I had asked Jon for his expertise exactly 8 weeks before my race, where tougher, longer, more race specific and intense workouts were imminent. The beauty of Jon's workout schedule is that he caters to our individual needs. In order for coach Yance to know what my individual strengths were, I had a multiple video analysis of my swim stroke and run mechanics in transition. Every detail to my swim and run mechanics were pointed out, good or bad, but all constructive. On the bike, Jon would reach out and set up long-ride to perform together specific to the Vineman bike course, which I thought was a great, personal touch. Combining video and one-on-one workouts, coach Yance knew where my strengths and weaknesses were and continually changed my schedule weekly based on what required more out of me. Coach Yance truly knows his craft and has a wealth of knowledge exceeding beyond training itself - nutrition, injury prevention, equipment and mental preparedness techniques. THANK YOU again, Coach Yance, for your confidence in me and knowing how hard I could push myself when I couldn't do it myself. I wouldn’t have crossed that finish line without you. Don't delete my schedule just yet, the next Ironman will be to COMPETE."

Coach
Jon is the best! I consider myself very lucky to have received his
strategic coaching. Jon provided me with excellent training schedules for
a 5k and 2 half marathons. Through his guidance and encouragement, I was
able to achieve a pace that I never knew I could. He also helped me to
discover my capabilities and obtain race titles I would have never imagined,
including 2nd overall female and top 15 AG. Coach Jon was
always responsive for every question or concern I had. He eased my
worries through excellent and friendly communication. I’m constantly
amazed by his ability to not only be an awesome coach, but an amazing and
down-to-earth triathlete with many accolades!

"I have been with Coach Yance for roughly seven months now and it is by far the best investment towards improving my fitness in Triathlon. Jon's coaching is personalized and catered to your ability, he builds you up from the ground up. I was in a two year hiatus from Triathlon due to school and coming back was hard. Jon pointed out the flaws in my swim technique with a one on one video analysis and also with my running form. The input was invaluable because it helped start my training "on the right foot" so to speak. I couldn't believe how my swim, bike, and run technique was so inefficient till Jon pointed it out. I tried this whole self coaching thing and I was definitely missing out on all those years... with Jon, I continued to improve and finished with my "personal best" on my olympic and 70.3 races. He is understanding with my schedule since we are both family men. He is a good friend and confidant, thanks again Coach Jon Yance and I look forward to more races with you. Swim bike run repeat!!!"

“Jon
is an amazing coach. He is very detailed in his approach from the moment you
sign him, the regular workout feedback, the final instructions before the race
and until the debriefing after the race. He takes time and effort to understand
me as an athlete and my other priorities in life, and so he designs a training
regimen that is customized to my schedule. He understands me as an athlete but
also as a husband, father, and professional. He is readily available for
inquiries and is a great motivator and friend. I have the best triathlon season
so far. Thanks, Coach Jon.”

"Jon Yance leads by example by pushing athletic limits above what I thought was possible. His passion to help others, including myself, has led to fitness awareness and self confidence. Regardless of any training challenge, he makes you believe in yourself. When I started I had a hard time running two miles. Two months later I completed my first half marathon with a respectable time. I'll be competing in my first half ironman this year under his guidance. Jon's emphasis is on training with a purpose to acheive your goals with the utmost importance on prevention of injuries. He meticulously creates a plan that best suits your needs, your personal build, and experience. I look forward with confidence to competing with Jon as my coach.

" I would encourage anyone out there looking for a coach to reach out to Jon because he was such an inspiration and a great motivator. To get me ready for the LA Marathon in 2015 Jon developed workouts that were challenging, mentally and physically. His workouts always matched the stage I was in during my training which was very helpful. Aside from the in depth training schedules he developed, he sent me articles about nutrition, strength/conditioning, proper running techniques and different stretches to prevent injury. Jon also gave me advice on when and how to start tapering. I was also very happy when he text me very early on race day to give me the motivation I needed. It was the icing on the cake! I'm proud to say that with all of the training and tips Jon developed for me, I improved my PR for a 26.2 race by over an hour finishing the run in 4:09:01! I will definitely be reaching out to Jon for any future training I need. "
